Lorain County IPMS

carl_picThe club was founded in 1997 and first chartered with IPMS in 1999. It was founded by the late Carl Metzger and Tony Gomez. Tony first met Carl, a retired captain of the Fairview Park Police Department, when he went to a garage sale at Carl’s house. Tony saw all the models in Carl’s garage – he kept hundreds of them on shelves built around the outside of the garage and approached him about starting a club. Carl had been building models since the late 50’s and Tony built models and collected Matchboxes and other toys. They decided to form a model club here in Lorain County as both of them had been members of other clubs around the Cleveland area over the years.

The club first met at a small war gaming shop called The Matrix on North Ridge Rd. in Sheffield.  The room was small and they moved the meeting to the new Elyria Public Library on West River Rd. in 1999.  The club met there until the library levy failed and they stopped being open on Sundays in around 2007, which has always been our meeting day.  Luckily around this time Carl got a line on being able to use the Elyria Township Community Room (Fire Hall) where we meet the 2nd Sunday of every month at 1:00 except July, our picnic in August and show days in April and October.  Our membership is over 20 and growing.
